5 reasons blogging is a powerful tool for activity businesses

by Daniel Steele

If you run an activity business, potential customers will be looking at your website for information and inspiration. A blog can be a powerful marketing tool for helping people discover your business and make a booking.

Here are five ways a blog can help your business.

Build SEO

SEO stands for search engine optimisation. It’s a bit of a buzzword in the digital marketing world, and for good reason - without good SEO, it’s very difficult to get your website noticed and ranked higher up in search results.

Search engines like Google routinely analyse websites to determine how well they answer the questions or search terms people are looking for, and thus how highly to rank them in search results. They use many different metrics to figure this out, including how popular the site is, how often it uses key words and phrases, how long visitors spend on it, and how frequently it is linked to by other websites.

A good blog can boost all of these numbers, and therefore increase your visibility in search engine results.

Communicate your brand

There’s so much that goes into your business that can’t be easily summarised in social media posts or on your website’s homepage. A blog can help visitors understand more about what to expect from your business, whether that’s getting to know your team, learning about your part of the world, or finding out about your activities.

Convert traffic into bookings

One important purpose of your blog is of course to inspire people to book onto your activities. As well as describing what people can expect and all the wonderful fun they'll have, including a clear link to your activities page will encourage people to make a booking. Keep things simple and use call-to-actions (CTAs) such as Book here, Find out more or See available activities.

Build for the long-term

Once published, articles have a much longer lifespan than other types of content, such as social media posts. If built properly and well-written, a good blog post can help bring in bookings for years, giving you potentially large returns on the time you invested putting it together.

Repurpose your content

As we discussed in our free guide to growing your business with social media, it’s important to be consistently posting great content on your social media platforms. Repurposing text from your blog is a great way to do this. You can encourage people to click through to your blog if they want to find out more, linking up your social media and content marketing strategies.
